AWP Conference, Washington D.C. (3)

Dear Writers and Supporters of Latino Literature,

As some of you may already know, Con Tinta (a writers’ collective affirming a proactive Latino presence in American literature) is honoring the mentorship and writing of Helena Maria Viramontes at our annual gathering during the AWP conference.  In the spirit of Helena’s encouragement of new writers, we would like to offer Latino authors with first books (published since AWP 2010) the opportunity to sign and sell books at our event.  Other presses/publishers will be welcome to leave fliers/postcards, etc. about work by Latino authors that will be available at the AWP bookfair.  Read on for details, and feel free to forward and re-post this message far and wide!

Who: Latino authors who’ve published a first book since April 2010.

What: Chance to offer your book for sale to a group of Latino lit practitioners and allies.

Where: Alero Restaurant/Lounge, 1301 U St. NW suite 113 Washington, DC 20009.

When: Thursday, February 3, from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm

How: Bring your own cash envelope, your books, and signage with pricing and payment info.  We ask that you donate a portion of your proceeds to Con Tinta, in an amount you feel befits our collective efforts.  Additional donations in support of the event are welcome.  We will supply an announcement about the availability of books during the evening and a person to “watch over” the book table while you enjoy the evening’s program.

Why: It is our hope that this exposure will help advance visibility for new Latino writers, a cause for which Helena is a model supporter.

Warm wishes to all,
